Liszt initially referred in manuscript to what would become his Concerto No. 2 as a 'Concerto Symphonique', drawing upon the concept of symphonic metamorphosis, in which main themes or ideas are developed by soloist and orchestra working as an inextricable entity. The sensational young pianist Benjamin Grosvenor takes on this remarkably poetic work that is both delicate and athletic, forceful yet lyrical. The concert opens with a newly-commissioned work, Jia[k], by local composer Emily Koh, and closes with Schubert’s Fourth Symphony.
