Crescent Girls’ School Symphonic Band

Crescent Girls’ School Symphonic Band (CGSSB) was established in 1967 and first started out as a military band under the baton of pioneer music director Mr. Lee Seck Chiang. Since its establishment, the band has evolved to become the symphonic band that it is today.

Led by its current conductors Mdm Tan Soh Hwa and Mr. Chua Tiong Hong, and with the guidance of its founder Mr. Lee, the band has gone on to achieve excellence in the numerous competitions it has participated in throughout the years. From 2010 - 2014, the band has attained the Certificate of Distinction in the Singapore Youth Festival: Arts Presentation, a Gold Award in the 3rd, 4th and 5th National Band Competition, a Gold Award in the Singapore Youth Festival Central Judging of Concert Bands, and a Gold Award in the Singapore International Band Festival.

The band has also staged numerous external performances at places like the Botanical Gardens and the Istana. CGSSB is also one of the few bands to be invited back numerous times to the Esplanade to play for its Limelight series.

As musicians, CGSSB constantly seeks to broaden its members’ musicality and expose them to music outside of Singapore. As such, the band participates in overseas exchange programmes. In 2010, the band went abroad to Osaka, Japan where they attended master classes/workshops and in 2012, the band went to the United Kingdom where they had an exchange programme with the band from King’s High School.

Join the band for its fifth Limelight performance as they bring to you themes from the spy film James Bond, the unforgettable soundtrack of Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean - Dead Man’s Chest and many more
