It was the 17th year of Emperor Chong Zhen’s reign, and the Ming Dynasty was in its final days. The Emperor had two daughters - Princess Zhao Ren and the 15 year old Princess Chang Ping who fell in love with the talented Zhou Shi Xian. Unfortunately, just as he was to be betrothed to her, the empire fell. Instead of letting his daughters be humiliated by the rebel troops, Emperor Chong Zhen decided to kill them himself.
Princess Chang Ping survived the ordeal despite severe injuries, and was saved by Zhou Zhong who attempted to betray her. Upon discovering her plans, Princess Chang Ping escaped by pretending to commit suicide in the river. She made her way to a nunnery, became a nun and changed her name to Hui Qing.
