Shakespeare Must Die is the first Thai cinematic adaptation of Macbeth, which includes a contemporary allegory about a fictitious nation where a popular politician rises up the echelons of power. Thailand's censors however, banned the film on the grounds that its content might cause disunity among the people. Despite its ordeal, Shakespeare Must Die went on to bag the NETPAC Award and the Best Feature Film in Fiction at the Tripoli International Film Festival.
