The first half of the concert showcases music by two brilliant Hungarian composers: The Intermezzo for String Trio of 1905 – composed at the time Kodaly started visiting Hungarian villages to collect folk melodies – as well as one of the great masterpieces of the repertoire which was composed in the same period, Dohnányi’s Serenade in C for String Trio. In the second half Russian pianist Viktoria Postnikova partners SSO musicians for Russian composer Shostakovich’s Piano Quintet in G minor which features a virtuosic piano part.
