Some commentators have called him an authoritarian figure, but to many older Singaporeans, Mr Lee Kuan Yew is a great leader who built up a prosperous nation.
But what is he in the eyes of the "post-65ers" – those who were born after 1965 when Singapore gained independence? Journalist and writer Lee Hui Min in her new nonfiction book Growing up in Lee Kuan Yew’s Era attempts to burrow into that through her personal lens.
Using a mix of narrative styles, the book is an alternative Singapore Story which tells the lives and emotions of ordinary Singaporeans growing up under the leadership of the former Prime Minister.
