5 kid-friendly staycations

The school holidays are coming again in November! Kick back and relax with the kids with our selection of staycations that are sure to bring out the big child in you too.

Shangri-La Rasa Sentosa Resort

Get your children amused with endless amount of fun-filled activities in November! After a $80 million facelift that took 10 months, Shangri-La Rasa Sentosa Resort obviously has the kids in mind. There are new family rooms that are spacious enough for two adults and two kids – no more need for two connecting rooms. A key addition is the Cool Zone that spans100 sqm over two storeys. The largest children’s club provided by a hotel in Singapore, Cool Zone is free for in-house guests between the age of four to 12. The club offers kids’ meals and three activity centres (Toots Club, Craft Zone and Game Zone) that are fully supervised by an experienced recreational team. The star feature is the large slide that winds from level three of the resort down into a pool of colourful balls on level one. Other facilities include The Flying Trapeze, the Sea Sports Centre, the swimming pools and outdoor Jacuzzis. Are you all excited already?

Rates: Rooms start at $476++ per night (family fun package inclusive of buffet meals and use of The Flying Trapeze)

Festive Hotel

Festive Hotel

Shush your noisy kids with candies upon arrival at Festive Hotel’s lobby and a waiting area especially for them while they enjoy an animated movie. Fun and vibrant, with lots of design surprises to delight families, Festive Hotel rooms come with separate chambers for parents and loft beds for kids. Sofas flatten into beds add extra sleeping room. Bold orchid motifs are featured in the corridors leading to the rooms and in large ceiling windows above the chambers. The hotel will feature a kids’ arcade, family restaurants and a 1,600-seat theatre where the resort’s resident show is staged. Each child checking in will also have their own amenities pack to complete their stay. Want to sneak away with your partner for a romantic dinner? Check baby in at the hotel’s baby-sitting services!

Wanderlust

Let your kids understand the concept of tree houses in apartment buildings-cluttered Singapore at Wanderlust Hotel. Its Whimsical rooms on level four come with ceiling-hugging loft beds and provoking art installation pieces. One features a floor-to-ceiling rocket, which is bound to get your astronaut-wannabe son all excited and another has a garishly gigantic typewriter that your introspective poet-like daughter may love. The piece du jour that will get your anticipation too is a kaleidoscopic life size tree house. If you and your family somehow managed to tear yourselves away from the wonderland that’s the hotel, show the kids the neighbourhood and its vibrant culture. Little India has many sights and sounds to offer curious kids!

Rates: Rooms start at $300++ per night.

Rider’s Lodge

Rider's Lodge

How many of us city kids (and adults!) have ever ridden a pony or horse before? Opt for a local vacay with a difference. Let the children get in touch with their roots in this somewhat rustic option.  A large colonial building set in the lush Turf City (the old race track) in Bukit Timah, the tranquil Rider’s Lodge has 40 rooms with scenic views of green landscapes. The location is near the heart of Singapore, yet away from the hustle and bustle. Along with riding lessons, you can also learn about horse and stable management and to ensure horse-riding safety, it’s essential to don the correct riding attire. Be certain to pack those close-fitting polo shirts, riding boots and helmets into your weekend bag!

Rates: Room rates start at $225 for a deluxe twin bed per night.

Hard Rock Hotel

Indulge your kids’ musical inclinations (or your inner rock star) at Hard Rock Hotel in Sentosa. We love the 360 stylishly designed plush rooms, each with large LCD televisions with 28 channels, including the Hard Rock Music Video Channel. If the music selection doesn’t suit your sophisticated ears, you can plug in your own CD or iPod on the docking stations. The coolest part your kids may fancy is the special lighting in every bathroom that makes them feel like they are in their own backstage dressing rooms. Pull-out beds are available cos, well, as rock stars, you never know who will drop by… Despite the proximity of fun entertainment around the hotel, we won’t be surprised if you and your kids don’t leave the vicinity.

Rates: Rooms start at $450++ for a deluxe room per night.
