Hitman: Agent 47

For fans of:  The ‘Resident Evil’ franchise

Emmy-nominated actor Rupert Friend (‘Homeland’) is popular videogame hitman Agent 47 in this movie adaptation.

This completely new story sees the genetically engineered professional assassin attempting to silence a massive corporation looking to unleash the secrets of his creation – as well as their own army of similar superhumans.

The movie also stars Zachary Quinto, Hannah Ware and Ciaran Hinds. If you’ve been paying attention at the trailers, you’ll notice that the movie is also filmed in Singapore. Some of the familiar venues you can spot in the movie are Robinson Road, Gardens By The Bay, Chinatown, Marina Barrage, Changi Airport, Marina Bay Financial Centre and Parkroyal on Pickering. Even Comfort taxis appear in an exciting action scene on Shenton Way!


Sinister 2’ 

For fans of: Horror movies like ‘Sinister’ (2012) and ‘The Conjuring’ (2013)

This sequel to the 2012 demonic horror gets a new director and a follow-up story from the original writers, this time following a young mother with twin sons who discover a new batch of cursed snuff films.


Return To Sender

For fans of: ‘The Boy Next Door’ (2015) and ‘Dark Places’ (2015)

In a pre-'Gone Girl' performance, Rosamund Pike plays Miranda, a rape survivor who starts visiting her assailant in jail. Her intentions remain unclear to the rapist, but as his release date nears Miranda's vengeful plot comes to light.


Wild City

For fans of: ‘City On Fire’ (1987) and ‘Triangle ‘(2007)

Hong Kong auteur Ringo Lam returns to the silver screen after a very long hiatus with the big budget action thriller ‘Wild City’, a Cantonese crime noir starring Louis Koo, Shawn Yue, Tong Liya and Joseph Chang.

The movie follows T-Man (Koo) a former cop-turned-bar owner who inadvertently winds up as the designated driver of a drunk customer Yun (Tong). When his brother Chung (Yue) tries to tow Yun’s car away the next day, gangsters kidnaps her.



Wild Tales

For fans of: Films by Pedro Almodovar like ‘The Skin I Live In' (2011) and ‘I'm So Excited’ (2013) 

Showing at The Projector this Saturday is this Argentinian black comedy made up of a six shorts all based on the theme of revenge is described by the Hollywood Reporter as "a subversive reflection on out-of-control behaviour." The movie was nominated for the Palme d'Or at Cannes 2014 and directed by award-winning filmmaker Damian Szifron (‘On Probation’).

A bride who is just told that the woman her new husband is cheating with is at table 8; a waitress has to serve the man who made her father commit suicide -- these make up part of the dark vignettes that highlight the primal instincts of humans.
