Star Wars: The Force Awakens

For fans of: Duh, ‘Star Wars’

The Force finally awakens this week! ‘The Force Awakens’ is the first ‘Star Wars’ film since Disney bought the rights to George Lucas' space opera franchise, directed by J.J. Abrams. 

Also the first in a planned trilogy (extending the movie saga with episodes seven, eight and nine), the story is set 35 years after ‘Return of the Jedi’. Lucas' main cast returns alongside Oscar Isaac, John Boyega, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley and Andy Serkis.

Indie cinema The Projector is throwing a ‘Star Wars’ afterparty this Thursday (93.30pm) at its Mos Eisley-esqued cantina The Great Escape with the Matteblacc DJs on deck duty. 


Trumbo

For fans of: ‘Suffragate’ (2015) and ‘The Majestic’ (2001)

Bryan Cranston is writer Dalton Trumbo in this biopic tracing his story from novelist, to Hollywood's highest paid writer, to his subsequent blacklisting after refusing to name names in the 1940s Communist witch hunt. Co-stars Helen Mirren, Elle Fanning, Diane Lane and Louis C.K.


Before We Go

For fans of: ‘Before Sunrise’ (1995)

Chris Evans makes his directorial debut with this winning romance about two strangers (Evans and Alice Eve) who spend a long, magical night in NYC after missing the last train at Grand Central Terminal.

Working from a script co-written by Academy Award-winning screenwriter Ron Bass (‘Rain Man’), Evans follows in the enchanting traditions of Eric Rohmer's ‘My Night at Maud's’ and Richard Linklater's ‘Before Sunrise’.
