5 museum exhibits to catch during International Museum Day

The 35th edition of International Museum Day takes place this Saturday on May 19.

More than 30,000 museums in around 100 countries will hold special activities to celebrate this year’s theme of “Museums in a Changing World; New challenges, new inspirations”.

Singapore’s no different and as a way to mark the event, we round up the top 5 museum programmes that you should look out for, happening in and around our island’s cultural and historical institutions this weekend.

 

Art Garden 2012

Engage in a range of contemporary artworks from both Singaporean and international artists that will appeal to both the young and old. Returning for its third year, the exhibition will also include a screening of short films and animations in conjunction with the ‘N.E.mation!’ competition.

Andy Warhol: 15 Minutes Eternal

The Andy Warhol: 15 Minutes Eternal Exhibition is still ongoing so don’t miss your chance to view the largest showcase of the renowned Pop Art artist’s work here in Singapore. Children can take up the guided ‘Riddles Tour’ while there’s also a ‘Silkscreen Printing Workshop’ where you can learn the basics of this technique, mastered by the legend himself.

Children’s Season 2012: Island Adventures

Learn about Singapore’s history and heritage in this specially designed interactive showcase. Discover how our little island has changed and developed over the years into the modern city that it is today. Incorporating storytelling elements and dynamic displays, this is one educational experience for the whole family!

The Adventures of Tintin

Learn to draw characters from the Tintin comics! To celebrate the birthday of its Belgian creator, Hergé, on 22 May 1907, the Singapore Philatelic Museum is organizing a special workshop for adults and children. Also take the opportunity to view ‘The Adventure of Tintin’ exhibition where you can view the full range of Tintin postage stamps and other rare philatelic materials.

Count to Ten!  - A hands-on gallery for all ages

Discover and learn about Asian culture with different activities that will challenge your senses in this hands-on gallery. Through games and puzzles, visitors will get a chance explore an adventure trail ala famed explorer Marco Polo!
