It's only days away from the much-awaited Singapore night race but boy can we feel the rumble and the smell of burning rubber already. A host of events—from film fests and concerts to club openings and comedy night--are waiting for you this weekend in the run-up to next weekend’s frenzy.
Film buffs are in for a treat as the Singapore International Film Festgets underway this week, and all through September 25. Choose from 144 feature films from all over the world as well fringe events such as film workshops, talks and an animation symposium. Read more about the festival here.
If you have an ear for music that’s eclectic and different from the norm, don’t miss Gilles Peterson’s Worldwide Festivalwhich is happening this weekend. This annual rave-up will see scores of musicians, artistes and DJs that span the gamut of the cutting edge, progressive, eclectic side of music over three days. The party will be held over three locations: Zouk/Velvet Underground (Sep 16), Avalon (Sep 17) and finally at Tanjong Beach Club (Sep 18) for the finale.
So who can you expect at the festival? A veritable who’s who of leftfield dance music artistes such as Alice Russell, Pearson Sound aka Ramadanman, Jeremy Ellis, Kyoto Jazz Massive, Kon & Amir, Floating Points, Brandt Brauer Frick, Mala, Lefto, Gilles Peterson & MC Earl Zinger, Sly Da Wise, Hong, Jeremy Boon, DjB, JNR, Has, Tony Tay, Octover, Ming and more.

T'ang Quartet takes on death by way of music of Franz Schubert, Bright Sheng, Aulis Sallinen and Ned Rorem. T'ang Quartet Presents Death of the Harlequinisinspired by the paintings of Picasso and French Impressionism.
Local funny man Hossan Leong returns in a new episode of epic comic proportions. The Hossan Leong Show Episode 3 is directed once again by George Chan. So look out for other cast members Chua Enlai, Judee Tan and more for a triple-confirmed session of laughter.

Get ready to laugh out loud this September as the Comedy Club presents UK-based Aussie comic Ro Campbell, Irish comedienne Janice Phayre and UK comedian Matt Kirshen. Campbell has performed at the last six Edinburgh Fringe festivals, while Kirshen has appeared in NBC's Last Comic Standing. The energetic Phayre has performed world-wide, including at the Melbourne Comedy Festival. At 8.30pm, Klapsons Hotel on Sept 16, Dutch Club on Sept 17 and China One on Sept 18.
