As this year’s NTUC Income Kite Festival Singapore 2011 draws to a close, its conclusion Kite Flying Days (Sept 3-4, Sat-Sun) promises to be nothing less than thrilling as it showcases the best of SE Asian kite heritage and tradition, set against the very modern Promontory @ Marina Bay.
Boasting of a total of 33 kite experts and 17 performing artistes from ten countries – namely Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Phillipines, Australia, Switzerland and Taiwan, the weekend extravaganza will have more than enough performances and workshops to keep all and sundry captivated.
One of the highlights of the festival has to be the inaugural Traditional Kite Showcase, as it features the indigenous kites of six neighbouring countries - Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Philippines, Indonesia. Members of the public will also be invited to make some of these kites at a traditional kite making workshop. Other workshops are available too, of course. So come on down with your family and kites and make this an enjoyable weekend to remember.
Kite Flying Days is on from Sept 3-4 at the Promontory @ Marina Bay. Admission is free.
