Sure, catching the fireworks on TV is fun. Okay, it’s not. It doesn’t do the fireworks any justice at all and you’d be much better off being closer to the action.
Thankfully though, this year’s National Day Parade is once again being held at the Marina Bay Float with the beautiful skyline of the city as its backdrop. Whether you’re a lavish spender or a budget conscious person, options for catching the fireworks outdoors are aplenty!
At a bar/restaurant
If gazing at the fireworks while sipping on some Dom Perignon is more of your thing, we’ve got five swanky places for you to enjoy the only day on the calendar when you’re obligated to feel patriotic.
Catalunya's National Day specials include innovative cocktails like a Mumbai Colada ($25), made with mustard macerated Johnnie Walker Black Label, Indian bitters, garam masala, coriander, Mozart Black, lemon juice, black cardamom syrup and kaya mix. It also comes as a set ($49) along with another specialty cocktail, Calamansi Mojito ($20 on its own), a serving of patatas bravas (fried potato cubes) and a killer view of the fireworks over Marina Bay. Reservations are a must.
KU DÉ TA Singapore
An obvious choice for a spectacular show, Ku De Ta's Sky Bar offers unblocked views and a great vantage, but will be standing room only. Make reservations or walk in, there is a cover charge of $48 per person, which includes a glass of champagne. After that, edge your way to the bar and order off their regular menu.

Esplanade Outdoor Theatre/Waterfront Promenade
Besides being in such close proximity to the Parade itself -- from the 8-12 August -- the Esplanade will also be gearing up for National Day in a big way a celebration of our country's dance, music, film and visual arts. This of course is a huge plus on the actual day itself, with performances from bands, choirs and many more for entertainment before or after the fireworks show. Check out the listings here.
Marina Bay Sands Boardwalk
This location, located right in the heart of all the happenings... will be very suitable for people who want to be in the thick of it all when the planes and fireworks go off. Caution: it could get loud. Very loud.
Very suitable for families with small kids to gather and watch the fireworks display from a distance. Have a picnic and chill out as the display goes off. Warning; do not fly kites on that day!
It might be far off from Marina Bay, but Singapore Indoor Stadium's waterfront promenade is the perfect place to catch some boom with jostling with the crowds in town. You can also dig into some grub at Brewerkz or Vansh before the big party.
The Helix Bridge
The bridge which links Marina Bay to Marina Centre also makes it a prime location to catch the fireworks! Get your timings right and hop onto the bridge. Get your cameras out because the view's pretty awesome from the bridge.
