One of France's top rugby teams, Biarritz Olympique, is the latest team to be added to the line-up of the inaugural World Club 10s championshin Singapore.
The 2012 Challenge Cup winner and two-time Heineken Cup runner-up joins Australia's Brumbies as well as the Asia Pacific Dragons — made up of top players from Asia and the Pacific — in this eight-team event.
The rugby World Club 10s on 21-22 June will be the first sporting event to be held at the new 55,000 seater National Stadium in the Singapore Sports Hub. The new annual event will feature top professional club rugby teams from around the world. With 10 players per team on a full sized pitch, 10s rugby seeks to blend the free flowing action of sevens with full-scale 15-a-side games.
Amateur rugby teams from clubs and schools around Asia also have the opportunity to be part of this event and play alongside their heroes with a Veterans competition on the Saturday and Junior competition on the Sunday.
"It is a special year for Biarritz rugby, with this being our 100th season, so it is a special time for us to celebrate Biarritz rugby. This World Club 10s tournament is the perfect end to this important year. I’m looking forward to coming (here) with our squad,” president of Biarritz Olympique, Serge Blanco said.
The five remaining teams will be announced at a later date said organiser Carinat Sports Marketing.
