The Gunpowder Trail, presented by Teater Ekamatra, follow the emotionally strained relationship between a career-minded mother and her daughter after the former runs off with a stolen sum of money. An adaptation of a short story by Claire Tham, The Gunpowder Trail is the result of a trip made to the Italian countryside by artistic director Zizi Azah Abdul.
Local funny man Hossan Leong returns in a new episode of epic comic proportions. The Hossan Leong Show Episode 3 is directed once again by George Chan. So look out for other cast members Chua Enlai, Judee Tan and more for a triple-confirmed session of laughter.
Our favourite arts hangout, The Substation turns 21 this month, and it’s celebrating with a bash!SeptFest(Sep 9-30) feature a series of different arts events to celebrate this milestone, including the premiere of Dance, Tree. Dance, a multi-disciplinary performance incorporating dance, theatre, sound and film. Visual artist Bruce Quek also unveils The Hall of Mirrors, an installation that mirrors an echo-chamber.
Street art meets high art at Vue Privee. Accomplished artist and photographer Burton Machen(through Sep 30), whose keen eye for beauty and fashion has got him into the pages of Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar and W explores the evolution of street art. Machen believes that street art is a powerful form of expression that has the ability to influence our thoughts and attitudes subconsciously.
With his ‘Portraits Project’ Burton invites the world to participate by posting portraits in cities like New York, Los Angeles, New Orleans and London and observes the reactions that they incite. He documents the evolution, which includes other street artists, passersby as well as factors such as time and weather till a final work is derived. German trance duo, Nic Chagall and Bossi AKA Cosmic Gatedrops by Zouk with their delish grab bag of acid-tinged trance tunes. If you love shuffling to their tunes such as “Not Enough Time”, “Body of Conflict”, “Exploration of Space” or “Fire Wire”, you know where to hit this Friday.
Fans of Asian pop will surely love what’s in store for them at Club Avatar. Taiwanese hip hop band Da Mouth drops by for an exclusive showcase present by Courvoisier titled You & Da Mouth(Sep 10). Dubbed the Asian Black Eyed Peas, Taiwanese hip-hop quartet Da Mouth won the Best Pop Group award at the prestigious Golden Melody Awards this June. Also, find out how you can WIN passes to this exclusive showcase (contest closes Friday).
