We last saw the broad-sword wielding, loin-clothing wearing warrior back in 1982 (Conan The Barbarian) and 1984 for Conan The Destroyer on the silver screen. Arnold Schwarzenegger’s portrayal as the Cimmerian warrior was so iconic that other that tried paled in comparison.
Fast forward to 2011 and it seems that a worthy replacement for the vaunted loincloth has been found. Conan the Barbarian stars Jason Mamoa as the titular hero, who vows vengeance upon the nefarious Khalar Singh (Stephen Lang, Avatar) following the murder of his parents. Ron Perlman (Hellboy) co-stars as Conan's father Corin, while Rachel Nichols (Star Trek) plays the lead female character Tamara and Rose McGowan occupies the role of an evil witch; also starring Bob Sapp, Leo Howard and Said Taghmaoui.
The new movie aims to reboot and reinvent the character's big-screen presence for a new generation. Will this remake stand up to Arnie’s original?
