inSing.com thinks: Star power isn’t enough to make this mess of a supernatural story comprehensible. Will (Craig) quits his job to spend more time with his family and his novel, only to find that there’s something odd about the house they’ve recently bought. Yes, some murders have been committed there (Guess you saw that coming!) but it seems that the presence is now out to get Will and his wife’s gorgeous daughters, while the townsfolk aren’t particularly helpful.
Undoubtedly recalling Shutter Island, with an unreliable viewpoint of the main character, this film takes a wild turn in the middle that would make even M. Night Shyamalan cringe. It makes the decent haunted house story into a direction that actually make it more mundane.
That’s quite a pity considering the talent on offer here. Craig is superb as a father trying to grant his family security, but Weisz and Watts don’t have too much to do, looking confused and anxious most of the time. Sadly funky wallpaper might be more interesting viewing than this House.
