The Singapore HeritageFest 2011 (July 15-31) is back, and it’s taking to the heartlands this time round!
This year’s theme, Home – What We Love About It!, celebrates all things unique with Singapore’s heritage. Within the span of three weeks, you’ll get to fully rediscover the city’s local cultures and traditions while updating them to fit into modern society.
Kicking off in the lively town hub of Ang Mo Kio, the festival roves around the country to settle in Fort Canning Green and Novena, amongst other venues. Into its 8th year, the Festival is its largest yet as the island gets transformed into a bonanza of music, dance, art, food and more.
Relive the good ol’ kampong days and more at the Festival Opening @ Ang Mo Kio (July 15-17), which also includes traditional arts like Chinese martial arts and Indian drumming compiled into one lively concert.
In the mood for golden oldies? Catch Anita Sarawak and Inch Chua, among others, as they take to the mega outdoor concert stage of Hilly Happenings @ Fort Canning Green (July 22-24).
Spreading to the heartlands this year, the festival will also have Festival Satellite Hubs (July 18-31) all over the city with various showcases highlighting various aspects of Singapore’s rich culture and history.
As the icing on the cake, don’t miss the grand Festival Finale @ Novena Square (July 29-31) which will take you back to old iconic favorites like Great World Amusement Park and Capitol Theatre!
For something a little more off the track. Check out the whole range of Expedition “H” trails to experience a side of Singapore most people have forgotten.
