For the weekend of 28 to 30 March, Fort Canning Green will serve as the backdrop for the mass screening of three beloved musicals.
We predict there will be mass sing-alongs as well to the irresistible songs from these cult classics.
‘Mamma Mia’ - 28 March (Friday)
‘Mamma Mia’ stars the incomparable Meryl Streep as single mother Donna Sheridan, who has three former lovers played by Pierce Brosnan, Colin Firth and Stellan Skarsgard. Adapted from the West End/Brodway musical of the same name, it also stars a pre-‘Les Miserables’ Amanda Seyfried in the role of Sophie, the daughter. Packed with songs by Swedish super pop group ABBA, the rom-com went on to win ‘Best Motion Picture (Comedy or Musical)’ at the Golden Globe awards.
‘A Hard Day’s Night’ – 29 March (Saturday)
If it has been a hard day’s night, and you’ve been working like a dog, perhaps you need a bit of John, Paul, Ringo and George to lift your spirits. Irreverent and in classic black-and-white, the 1964 comedy features The Beatles classics such as ‘If I Fell’, ‘Can’t Buy Me Love’ and ‘This Boy’. It follows a few days in the lives of the band who were, at that time, at the height of Beatlemania. This original rock ‘n’ roll musical is timeless and will definitlely have you singing along from your grassy seat.
‘Grease’ – 30 March (Sunday)
Cult classic Grease will have you singing ‘Summer Nights’, slicking back your hair like Danny Zuko or dressing like Sandy Olsen in no time. This 1978 film features a young John Travolta and the ever gorgeous Olivia Newton-John in the title roles. With its infectious songs and amazing dance moves, don't be surprised if Fort Canning Green resembles an assembly area at Rydell High School. Grease is the word!
At all the above screenings, enjoy free-flow popcorn and get drinks from a bar stocked with soft drinks, beers, wines and spirits. Food will be provided by bratwurst cafe and grill, The Brat.
Alongside the theatre-quality giant screens, there will be a deejay (DJ Deepak from Ku De Ta) for the after-party following the movie.
