'Fifty Shades of Grey': A male and female viewer react to the movie

Zaki Jufri, inSing.com movie critic

"Those looking for hot, kinky sex on screen will be sorely disappointed. For a movie set in the world of BDSM (bondage/discipline, dominance/submission and sado-masochism), only 15 (yes, we counted) of the movie's 125-minute run time feature the promised kink.

The bedroom action, even with Beyonce’s ‘Crazy in Love’ and a stirring score by Danny Elfman providing rhythmic thrusts to the proceedings, are so flaccid that even the graphic nudity grows numbing." 2/5 stars

Daphne Ong, contributor

"The consensual nature of the sexual relationship is conspicuously highlighted in the movie, and they reiterate it several times just in case the audience forgets along the way.

Yet, their dialogue often ends up sounding trite, belonging more in a Mills and Boon romance novel, and the sex scenes feel like foreplay for something more explicit.

No amount of nudity and hip-thrusting can mask the lack of chemistry between the two leads in spite of the copious amounts of screen time they spend staring intensely into each others’ eyes, in close-up." 2/5 stars
