Angelina Jolie is Maleficent, one of Disney's most iconic female villains
We finally get to see Angelina Jolie in a role that is just made for her, as one of Disney’s most iconic female villains in the teaser trailer of Disney's 'Maleficent'.
The studio has just released the first footage from its big-budget film, which revisits the legend of Sleeping Beauty.
Out in May 2014, the live action film sees Jolie clad in black, that recognisable hat of horns on her head, as the arch villain in Sleeping Beauty.
But now we get to see another side to the evil witch who cast a spell over Princess Aurora (Elle Fanning) that plunged her into a deep sleep that only true love's kiss could wake her from.
The film, directed by Robert Stromberg, is billed as "the untold story of Disney's iconic villain", and tells how Maleficent was transformed from a kind, innocent young woman into a witch with a heart of stone after a brutal betrayal.
For those that have watched the original Disney animated movie, the clip also features shots of Aurora approaching the iconic spinning wheel spindle from 'Sleeping Beauty'.
Juno Temple, Sharlto Copley, Peter Capaldi and Brenton Thwaites are all in the cast.
Barring disappoinment like 'John Carter', Disney has been doing great with its live action versions of its classic cartoons and film, with 'Alice in Wonderland' (2010), 'Oz The Great and Powerful' (2013) and reboot of Peter Pan -- 'Peter and the Starcatcher'.
With its star cast and female-centric story, 'Maleficent' looks set to be a box-office hit.
