First Look: Go 'Into The Woods' with Meryl Streep

Stephen Sondheim multi-award winning musical 'Into The Woods' is getting the silver screen treatment and Disney just unveils its latest trailer.

The film is a modern twist on the Brothers Grimm fairy tales, with intertwining stories and characters.

Directed by Rob Marshall ('Chicago'), 'Into the Woods' is out in theatres 15 January.

The new clip begins showcasing various characters, including the Baker and the Baker’s Wife (James Corden and Emily Blunt) and Cinderella (Anna Kendrick) singing about their hopes and dreams in 'I Wish'.

Enter Meryl Streep as the Witch, who has a song of her own.

She tells the Baker and his wife that she can reverse their curse if they can secure the following items from the woods: “A cow as white as milk, a cape as red as blood, the hair as yellow as corn and the slipper as pure as gold.”

Each item corresponds to the fairy tale characters Jack, Red Riding Hood, Rapunzel and Cinderella.

All of these characters, as well as Prince Charming (Chris Pine) and the Big Bad Wolf (Johnny Depp) are brought together in a plot that hints at a not-quite-happily-ever-after ending with the tagline, “be careful what you wish for.”

The big-screen adaptation welcomes songs from the stage musical, including 'Children Will Listen', 'Giants in the Sky', 'On the Steps of the Palace', 'No One Is Alone' and 'Agony' among others.
