Another week, another comic book movie trailer.
Before we take a deep dive into ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’ which opens in Singapore this week, Marvel throws us a bone with the release of the second trailer of its upcoming blockbuster ‘Guardians of The Galaxy’.
The movie star Chris Pratt as Peter Quill aka Star-Lord as assembles his dream team of galaxy defenders in order to save the world.
Joined by co-stars Zoe Saldana as assassin Gamora, Vin Diesel as walking tree Groot, David Bautista as the maniacal Drax The Destroyer and Bradley Cooper’s Rocket Raccoon, Pratt and his team battle the villainous Ronan The Accuser, played by Lee Pace.
"Here we are: a thief, two thugs, an assassin and a maniac," Pratt’s Star-Lord said in the trailer. "But we're not going to stand by while evil wipes out the galaxy. I guess we're stuck together, partners."
Fans of the comics will definitely cheer with delight at the many references from the comics appearing in the trailer such as “Knowhere”, a space port which is actually a decapitated head of a Celestial, massive beings with cosmic powers, Saldana’s Gamora in a face-off with Karen Gillan’s Nebula as well as a steamy scene between Saldana and Pratt.
But there's nothing they wanted more than to hear Vin Diesel say the walking tree-creature's signature line — the only thing the character ever says: “I am Groot’.
The film also stars Djimon Hounsou, John C. Reilly, Glenn Close and Benicio Del Toro.
‘Guardians of The Galaxy’ opens in cinemas 31 July
