The first trailer for 'The Wolverine' has been released ahead of the film's summer release.
Hugh Jackman will reprise his role as Wolverine for the sixth time, opposite a duo of villains made up of Svetlana Khodchenkova and Will Yun Lee, who will play Viper and the Silver Samurai.
In the trailer, Wolverine is convinced to head to Japan by a mysterious woman named Yukio (Rila Fukushima) to meet with an old man whom he had saved from the atomic bomb attack at Hiroshima. He's got an offer that's hard to refuse: to make him mortal and fix the healing factor that's kept him alive through many a scrape and slowed his aging to a crawl.
Wolvie learns that being immortal does have its advantages, though, when he's attacked by scores of henchmen, ninjas and various other bad guys.
Based on a classic 'Wolverine' miniseries from the 1980s by writer Chris Claremont and artist Frank Miller, 'The Wolverine' also stars Svetlana Khodchenkova as the villainous femme fatale Viper, Will Yun Lee as Silver Samurai and Tao Okamoto as love interest Mariko Yashida. There is even an appearance by Famke Janssen, who plays Wolverine’s romantic interest, Jean Grey.
The movie is a follow-up to 2009's 'X-Men Origins: Wolverine', and Jackman also played the character in three 'X-Men' movies from 2000 to 2006 and had a cameo in 2011's 'X-Men: First Class'. He is slated to appear in the next X-film, director Bryan Singer's' 'X-Men: Days of Future Past', out 18 July, 2014.
'The Wolverine' is directed by James Mangold and will be released on 26 July.
