First Look: Prepare for the future with new 'Fantastic Four'

The long-awaited ‘Fantastic Four’ trailer has finally hit the net, giving audiences a first look at the new iterations of the superhero quartet.

In the vein of Chris Nolan’s ‘Interstellar’, the new trailer begins with a foreboding monologue about “mankind’s immeasurable desire to discover, invent and build”.

The trailer doesn’t reveal much about the plot other than the origin story most are familiar with: a group of scientists gain superhuman powers after they’re hit with cosmic rays during an experiment in space.

In line with recent comic-to-movie adaptations, ‘Fantastic Four’, according to director Josh Trank, will be grounded in reality and science.

The new film has a promising cast, featuring Miles Teller (‘Whiplash’) as the stretchy Reed Richards, also known as Mr Fantastic; Michael B Jordan (‘The Wire’) as Johnny Storm, the Human Torch; Kate Mara (‘House of Cards’) as Sue Storm, the Invisible Woman; and Jamie Bell (‘Snowpiercer’) as Ben Grimm, the rocky Thing. Toby Kebbell from ‘Dawn of the Planet of the Apes’ is villain Doom.

In the trailer, we also get to see quick snippets of Johnny Storm bursting into flames, Ben Grimm/The Thing bursting out of a rock, and Reed Richards reaching/stretching for something.

The movie is written by Simon Kinberg (‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’).

It will open in Singapore on 6 August 2015.
