X-Men: Apocalypse

If you have been living under a rock and are not privy to the bevy of cinematic superhero sagas out there, the X-Men has sort of been effectively retconned during 2014’s ‘Days of Future Past’, no thanks to 2006's disastrous 'The Last Stand'.

James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender and Jennifer Lawrence bring our favourite mutants on another adventure with ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ where we finally see a bald Professor X.

Oscar Isaac makes his Marvel debut as Apocalypse, the first ever mutant, as he fancies taking over the world with the help of his four horsemen: Magneto (Fassbender), Storm (Alexandra Shipp), Angel (Ben Hardy) and Psylocke (Olivia Munn).

Lawrence returns as Mystique – in her final outing in the film franchise – and it looks like she’s leading the newbie X-Men, Jean Grey (Sophie Turner), Cyclops (Tye Sheridan) and Nightcrawler (Kodi Smit-Mcphee) to defeat Apocalypse.

'X-Men: Apocalypse' opens 19 May 2016

Star Trek Beyond

Paramount Pictures  has dropped the first trailer for ‘Star Trek Beyond’, the third installment in the rebooted sci-fi franchise and the first one not directed by J.J. Abrams (he only produced, while ‘Fast & Furious’ director’ Justin Lin takes over in the director’s chair).

Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Simon Pegg, John Cho, and Karl Urban return to helm the USS Enterprise while Sofia Boutella and Idris Elba make their debut to the franchise.

In the clip, Kirk watches from an escape pod as the Enterprise is destroyed, sending him and the rest of his crew crashing to the planet below. "We have no ship, no crew -- how are we going to get out of this one?" Kirk asks, followed by Spock responding, "We will find hope in the impossible."

The movie opens 21 July 2016

Independence Day: Resurgence

Where is Will Smith’s Steven Hiller?

That would be the question to ask after watching the first trailer for ‘Independence Day: Resurgence’.

The film is set decades after the events of ‘Independence Day’. Humans have adapted alien technology to create a new global defense system in the event that the invaders should return. But when they do return, nothing can prepare humanity for the fight that will ensure

Bill Pullman, Jeff Goldblum, Vivica A. Fox, and Judd Hirsch will all reprise their roles from the original film. Liam Hemsworth, Maika Monroe, and Joey King will also star.

The movie opens 23 June 2016.

While Roald Dahl’s beloved children’s books have been adapted for the silver screen before (namely ‘Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory’, ‘The Witches’, ‘James & The Giant Peach’), the one book that still eludes filmmakers is ‘The BFG’ (there was an animated movie in 1989).

Thanks to Disney and Steven Spielberg, Sophie and the titular giant are brought to life next year.

Directed by Steven Spielberg, the film will follow Roald Dahl’s classic novel about Sophie’s adventure with The Big Friendly Giant.

Mark Rylance, who recently starred in Spielberg's 'Bridge of Spies', appears as the titular giant, with Bill Hader, Penelope Wilton and Rebecca Hall also appearing in the film.

'The BFG' opens 30 June 2016
