Besides chilling on its sandy beaches with a pina colada, swimming in its balmy waters or even cycle around its many winding trails, you can now FLY in Sentosa… and no, we’re not talking about going down a zip-line.
Sentosa’s newest multi-million dollar attraction--iFly Singapore--is now officially opened. At a height of 17.22 metres and a diameter of 5.02m, the indoor skydiving wind tunnel is said to be the largest of its kind in the world.
You can experience the thrill of skydiving, indoors, starting from $89 per adult. This entitles you to two 45-second sessions of suspension in thin air. After a pre-flight training skills session (by qualified skydiving pros of course), you're free to fly like a superhero or act channel your best Charlie Sheen move from Terminal Velocity-- all at speeds of up to 300km/h.
Speaking to reporters at the launch, Foreign Affairs Minister George Yeo quipped: "A few months ago they said 'Well, it's ready, would you like to try it, come down for a practise session.' So I thought, 'Okay, would make a nice picture for my election brochure.' But as it turned out, the facility was not ready in time, and that changed the outcome of the election.” The outgoing minister was game enough to don a red jump-suit before taking a two-minute 'flight' in the wind tunnel.
iFly is located at 43 Siloso Beach Walk, Sentosa. Beginner flight packages, inclusive of comprehensive training and two flight experiences start from $89 for an adult and $79 for a child. For early-bird bookings contact firstname.lastname@example.org or 6571 0000.
