Free things to do this weekend

The whole city is gripped with F1 fever, and everyone around you is dropping big bucks to get into the best zones, parties, events and restaurants. If far away from it all is where you want to be, we have a go-to guide for having a fun, free and F1-free weekend.

Catch a free movie at The Arts House. This weekend they are screening three movie adaptations of novels like Around the World in 80 Days, Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World and Star Trek.

If you are in the area, step into the Cats of the World photo exhibition and flea market for a bit of furry feline goodness.

For a side of Singapore that is homely and very real, check out Dawn Ng’s photography meets typography exhibition at the Chan Hampe Galleries – Everything you ever wanted is right here.

While everyone else is guzzling beer, and gorging on snacks you can take a step towards good health this weekend with a run (or walk) around Singapore’s idyllic spots. Take a walk around the Changi Point coast or the 2.4-kilometre nature walk at Punggol promenade.

For those with more stamina, brave the MacRitchie Reservoir loop, you might even spot a monkey or two.

Photography enthusiast? 11 customized pieces from the really cool range of DIY cameras by La Sardina will be on display in the Lomography store.

Go applaud some affordable art at the "My point is..." art exhibition at The Screening Room.

End the weekend with a barbeque on the beach along East Coast Park. Skate, cycle, play volleyball or just sit under the trees before you tuck into dinner.
