'Gone Girl' posters give clues on Amy's disappearance

20th Century Fox has released four posters for David Fincher's forthcoming thriller, which stars Ben Affleck as a husband whose wife has gone missing. Each one shows an object apparently linked to Amy's disappearance.

The four posters show four items enclosed in police evidence bags: a box cutter, a bra, a burned note and a photo. All of these clues, which are pictured under the ironic tagline "Happy Anniversary," should help the police to track down Amy.

Nick (Ben Affleck) and his wife Amy (Rosamund Pike) appear to be a perfect couple. After Nick loses his job in New York, the family leaves the city to settle in the small Missouri town where Nick grew up.

On the day of their fifth wedding anniversary, the husband finds his house in disarray and his wife missing.

In spite of doing everything he can to help locate his wife, Nick sees the tables turn and himself becomes a suspect in the case.

After filming the first two episodes of 'House of Cards' last year, the director of 'Seven' and 'Zodiac' returns to the film world and to the thriller genre with 'Gone Girl'.

Gillian Flynn penned the screenplay from her best-selling novel of the same name, which sold just under 2 million copies in the US.

The cast also includes Tyler Perry, Missi Pyle ('Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters') and Neil Patrick Harris ('How I Met Your Mother').

The film arrives in cinemas on 2 October.
