Harry Potter: A Look Back

Since Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 is coming out this week, we thought it will be cool make sure you were updated with what has happened so far (perfect for newbies as you have more than 15 hours worth of material to trawl through). So here's our handy Harry Potter recap!

 

 

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (2001)

A young boy living under the staircase of his Uncle’s family discovers that he’s a wizard on his 11th birthday. So were his parents, who were killed by the evil wizard Voldemort. Harry enters the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, and becomes friends with Ron Weasley (Rupert Grint) and Hermione Granger (Emma Watson) -- and a foil to the slippery Professor Severus Snape (Alan Rickman) and stuck up wizard aristocrat-ling Draco Malfoy (Tom Felton). Potter battles Voldemort (Ralph Fiennes) for the Sorcerer's Stone -- a magical object that extends life.

Harry Potter and the Chamber Of Secrets (2002)

Dobby, a house elf, warns young Potter against returning to Hogwarts, for terrible things are going to happen. Despite the warning, he went back to Hogwarts where he, Ron and Hermione discover that a monstrous snake called a Basilisk is stalking the castle and attacking students. Ron's younger sister, Ginny (Bonnie Wright), is taken by the Basilisk and the trio must find the Chamber of Secrets to rescue her.

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (2004)

Harry learns he's in danger from a notorious fugitive. But he finds out that the wrongly convicted Sirius Black (Gary Oldman) actually is his godfather. A new teacher, Remus Lupin (David Thewlis), rescues Harry and helps him develop a Patronus, an apparition to fend off the ghostly Dementors. Harry and Sirius discover that Ron's pet rat is really Peter Pettigrew (Timothy Spall), a Voldemort ally who betrayed Harry's parents.

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005)

Hogwarts hosts the yearlong Triwizard Tournament against students from two other wizarding schools (one is a pre-Twilight Robert Pattinson. One student from each school is chosen by the Goblet of Fire to compete, but the cup tosses out a fourth name: Harry Potter (of course). Voldemort's partners in crime, the Death Eaters, are becoming more of a nuisance in this fourth instalment. Here we also see Harry's first real encounter with 'He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named'.

Harry Potter and the Order of The Phoenix (2007)

Harry, Ron and Hermione learn that Prof. Snape is actually a double agent -- although it is unclear which side holds his true loyalty. Inspired by the Order of the Phoenix, who fought against Voldemort, the trio form Dumbledore's Army; recruiting other Hogwarts students. They train in secret to learn magical defensive techniques and fight the Death Eaters.

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (2009)

Prof. Snape makes an unbreakable vow to protect Draco, who has been given a task by Voldemort – to kill Prof. Dumbledore. Harry learns that Voldemort has tried to make himself immortal by splitting his soul into seven pieces so he and Dumbledore fight their way through an enchanted cave to retrieve one of them. Back at Hogwarts, a weakened Dumbledore encounters Draco. When the boy falters, Snape kills the headmaster (gasssp!).

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 (2010)

As the saga of the boy wizard nears its close, Harry, Ron, and Hermione attempt to find and destroy an enchanted locket that contains a portion of the soul of the dark wizard, Lord Voldemort. Their search reveals clues to three magical objects, known as the Deathly Hallows, which will provide their possessor with eternal life.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 open in cinemas July 14.
