Jarno Trulli, 36
Lotus Racing Team
He’s one of the most experienced drivers on the grid, having been in F1 since 1997.
Having driven for Minardi, Prost, Jordan, Renault, Toyota and now Lotus, But more than that, Jarno Trulli known as being super quick during qualifying – but unfortunately hasn’t been able to translate that into as many podium wins as he’d truly like. But that’s okay, Jarno has a great back-up plan – he owns his own vineyard.
You own your own vineyard and produce your own wines – do you ever bring along a case while you’re away at races, and have a drink or two to celebrate good results?
Hahaha! Yes I do – how many bottles do you want?
How did you end up owning a vineyard?
My grandfather had a vineyard and made wine, so my Dad and I decided to do the same, and about ten years ago we started the business.
Let’s get to racing now – you’ve been noted as being one of the best at qualifying – what’s your secret to getting to the front of the grid?
I’ve been asked that a lot, but there’s no real secret to it. People think there’s something secret that I do, but there isn’t, I guess it’s just down to concentration, focus and being able to get the best out of the car as much as possible.
How do you think your season is going so far?
Like Heikki, I think we are where we want to be. We’re exactly a year old, and to be tenth is pretty much as good as we could be.
How do you hope to do at the Singapore Grand Prix?
Again, same as Heikki – stay ahead of Virgin and HRT and make sure we finish the race. I like the circuit, and it’s a great race to be at, so hopefully we’ll do ok!
Off the track, how do you prepare for a race (with a glass of your own wine?)?
HA! No, I limit the wine, but I train hard and make sure I get enough sleep, and relax a bit between races.
Tell us something about yourself that people might not know about.
I’m a big fan of CSI!
