Deepavali, or the Festival of Lights, is brigthtening up Little India again this year with numerous activities including exhibitions, fairs, a parade and a big countdown concert!
There’s plenty to see, even if you’re not celebrating Deepavali yourself. And here are some of the activities that you wouldn’t want to miss.
The Deepavali Bazaar is great for everyone – there’s food! There’s bargains! There’s artifacts and knick-knacks! What’s there not to love? Held at the Deepavali Festival Village at Campbell Lane, it’s a great chance for you to get into the spirit of things, and munch on all the yummy food at the same time.
From the bazaar wander through the roads of Little India as you take in the sights of the Street Light Up, which happens every day from 7pm onwards. At the same time, pop over to the Deepavali Festival Village and learn more about the heritage and crafts behind the festival, where you can also see traditional craftsmen at work. To see even more, head over to the Deepavali Trade Fair, happening along Serangoon Road from 11am to 11pm. There’s plenty of ethnic wear, artifacts and bargains for you to explore.
Of course, one of the highlights of the festival has to be the UTSAV Deepavali Street Parade where there’ll be plenty of unique performances in different art forms, alongside traditional cultural and multi-cultural performances, happening on Oct 30 from 7pm – 10pm on Race Course Road. Then join in the Vasantham M1 Deepvali Countdown Concert with a host of local and international celebrities present to help ring in Deepavali! The concert takes place on Nov 4, 9pm at Race Course Road.
Deepavali is on Friday, Nov 5. Festivities will be ongoing until then.
