Carrying around your lantern is one of those childhood memories you can never forget – so here’s your chance to relive those moments again with this year’s Lantern Festival!
Taking place in the 8th Lunar Month (which runs from September 8 to October 7 this year), Lantern Festival 2010 has plenty to offer anyone and everyone!
Join in the Chinatown Lantern Festival Street Light Up which will have sights to behold, like huge lanterns and fairy lights all along Eu Tong Sen Street and New Bridge Road. There’ll be plenty of street bazaars on at the same time all along the side streets (a bit more on that later). This flurry of activity will happen from Sept 11 all the way to Oct 10 from 7pm till late.
The street bazaars will be all abuzz with excitement as the vendors selling mooncakes, savouries, lanterns and other festive wares come out in full force. Look out for them at Pagoda Street, Terrenganu Street, Sago Street and Chinatown Complex, from Sept 9 to Sept 22, from 11am to late.
What’s a lantern festival without a good old stage show! Mixing traditional and contemporary entertainment, make sure you head on down to the Kreta Ayer Square (just next to the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple) everyday from Sept 11 to Sept 22 daily from 8pm.
And of course, you have to join in with the mass lantern procession! On Saturday Sept 18, join in as the procession starts at 7.30pm at the open field near Outram MRT Station and ends up near the river banks of Clarke Quay. Bring your lanterns along – whether it’s the battery operated kind or the traditional candle-lit ones – all lanterns are welcome!
