Livin’ Large At Avalon in September

It stands out like a diamond—its glass façade shimmering like a jewel jutting out of Marina Bay. It’s amazing that only just a few months ago nothing stood there but placid waters of the reservoir.

Come September 16, that massive jewel on the water will shine more brightly when the velvet ropes are set, the turntable’s tone arm is set on wax and the strobe lights come on for what will be the place you need to be seen and be seen in this year.

Come September 16, the storied Hollywood club, Avalon, finally opens its doors here, and it’s doing it in style.

The brainchild of American nightlife mogul Steve Adelman, the 1,486 sq m space located in Marina Bay Sands’ Crystal Pavilion is one of Singapore’s biggest clubs. And according to Adelman in an interview: “It is a multi-purpose venue with a full concert stage set-up to accommodate touring acts.”

From opening night and all through the end of Singapore Grand Prix Season (September 25), Avalon is hosting a series of club nights featuring international acts as well as two music festivals to boot—all to usher in a new paradigm of club-life in Singapore.

Brandt Brauer Frick for Worldwide Festival 2011

Certainly THE highlight of the week (16,000 people thought so last year)—Avalon tosses yet another of its Avalon At Large Presents GO!This year’s bash will yet again see a star-studded lineup of DJs and artistes such as hip hop star Ludacris, party rockers LMFAO, trance jock Sander van Doorn and more!

The club shifts a different gear on September 17 as it plays host to the second leg of this year’s Gilles Peterson’s Worldwide Festival. The acts, all handpicked by tastemaker Gilles Peterson himself—British soul singer Alice Russell, DJ and producer Floating Points and German techno trio Brandt Brauer Frick just to name a few good ones. Also storming into Avalon’s DJ booth are DJs Effen and Tony Tay who are two of the club’s resident jocks.

Simian Mobile Disco

During the Singapore GP Season, the club hosts a staggering lineup of who's who in the electronic dance music scene including electronic dance stalwarts minimal-house legends Simian Mobile Disco, German electro pop duo Digitalism, the kings of downtempo and dub Kruder & Dorfmeister, legendary producers The Chemical Brothers and trip-hop pioneers Massive Attack.
