Lorde to perform lead single, curate tracks for 'Hunger Games: Mockingjay'

Lionsgate is not only asking Lorde to provide a new single for the 'Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1' soundtrack, but also trusting her to pick out every other track on the album.

The studio announced on Thursday that the Grammy-winning 'Royals' singer will curate the soundtrack for the upcoming sequel to 'Hunger Games: Catching Fire', and provide the first single, herself.

Lorde, a 17-year-old artist from New Zealand, has earned two Grammys and two Billboard awards since her debut album, 'Pure Heroine', has gone platinum.

'Mockingjay – Part 1', the second to last installment of the massively successful Lionsgate franchise starring Jennifer Lawrence as heroine Katniss Everdeen, hits theaters on 21 November.

“Curating the soundtrack for such a hotly-anticipated film was a challenge, but I jumped at the chance,” Lorde said in a statement.

”The cast and story are an inspiration for all musicians participating and, as someone with cinematic leanings, being privy to a different creative process has been a unique experience. I think the soundtrack is definitely going to surprise people.”
