Man vs Man: Superman fights a taiji master

'Man Of Steel' needs no introduction.  It’s Superman.  Even if you’re Super-dumb Man, chances are you’d know who he is.

But who the heck is the 'Man Of Tai Chi'?

No, seriously.  We really don’t know because we have never heard of the dude who plays him.  His name is Tiger Chen and the reason he’s fronting the Hong Kong-China gongfu action flick about an underground fight club in HK is because he’s Keanu Reeves’ pal and martial arts teacher since The Matrix days and also Uma Thurman’s stunt double.

Yes, you heard us right.  This Sichuan native and a gongfu exponent since the age of eight stood in for Uma in 'Kill Bill'.  But hey, we’re not saying anything.  Even Gene Hackman, Wesley Snipes and Sigourney Weaver have appeared as women before.

We're not gongfu-phobic, okay? We love Asian movies.

But here’s the deal – while 'Man Of Steel' was considered too serious, 'Man Of Tai Chi' is, er, seriously bad.

Let’s put aside the little man.  No, not the baby, Kal-El, in MOS, but the little tiger in MOTC.

No, let’s look at the big man, Keanu.  He directs a film for the first time, pops up as the villain as well, and says such nice things about his protégé – “Tiger is a very talented actor.”  Okay, dude.  As Bill and Ted in their excellent adventures would say: “Awesome!”.

But Keanu the director, we’re convinced, forgot to tell Keanu the actor one important thing.  That he’s supposed to move at least two facial muscles to act.

The result is 'Man Of Tai Chi', a movie so bad it’s pretty embarrassing compared to … oh, well, here it is – 'Man Of Steel'.
