She knows all the names of the Formula 1 drivers by heart and she religiously watches every race this season but the icing on the cake for this self-confessed F1 fan will have to be getting a chance to rub shoulders will all her favourite F1 race drivers.
21 year-old Ashvin Sandhu is one of eight finalists this year to be a SingTel Grid Girl. The top eight were chosen from more than 100 applicants who went through auditions at the two SingTel F1 roadshows held at Bishan (7-8 July) and Jurong Central Park (21-22 July).
“I’ve been following the race for the last four years and this year I will be able to witness the action first-hand on the track and I’m very excited about it,” says the 21-year old student who tells us that her favourite drivers are Lewis Hamilton and Jensen Button.
Another Grid Girl finalist Esther Leong, 23, actually didn’t know that there was an open call for auditions and was just accompanying a friend to the Bishan roadshow. “I was really surprised to know that I got into the top eight. It’s really an honour,” says the recent marketing graduate from Singapore Institute of Management.

When asked what is the one quality that clinched her the spot on the top eight, Leong beams, “It would have to be my smile and personality.”
The Red Bull Racing fan hopes to meet her idol, German driver Sebastian Vettell come race day: “I really admire his skill at driving a Formula 1 car at such a young age. He won the race here last year and the Marina Bay Street Circuit is known to be a tricky one.”
