The Social Star Awards, a landmark ceremony crowning the most popular icons on social media, will have some of pop culture’s biggest names in town for entertainment.
Hosted by Jessica Alba and 'Entourage' star Jeremy Piven, the awards itself will be dotted with performances by American rockers Aerosmith, singer Cee Lo Green, Canadian pop sensation Carly Rae Jepsen, Sky Blu of LMFAO and multi-national Asian girl group Blush and PSY. With the exception of Sky Blu, all the VIP artists will also hold shows at The Singapore Social Concerts at Gardens by the Bay 24 and 25 May.
Fittingly, one of their special guests was one of the world’s biggest social media forces last year. PSY’s video for ‘Gangnam Style’ has racked up the 1.5 billion views on YouTube. The trademark galloping dance has been performed in flash mobs around the world, as well as by celebrities like boxer Manny Pacquaio and dissident Chinese artist Ai Wei Wei.
Organised by social media leaderboard Starcount, who track the online activity of 1.7 billion people daily, the ceremony will hand out awards for the most tweeted and shared sports person, film and solo music artist among others. Brands and stars in the running include LMFAO, Twilight, Justin Bieber and the eponymous Angry Birds.
If you can’t make it down for the fanfare, the awards will also be streamed live on YouTube.
