Oscars 2013: The Nominees

After last year's dominance from UK ('The King's Speech') and Europe ('The Artist'), America is back to reassert its dominance in film as The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences finally revealed their list of nominations for this the 85th Academy Awards.

The Steven Spielberg-helmed 'Lincoln' leads the pack with 12 nominations including nods for best picture, best director, and best actor for Daniel Day-Lewis, followed by Ang Lee's 'Life of Pi' with 11. A surprise joint third place goes to rom-com 'Silver Linings Playbook', directed by David O. Russell and Tom Hooper's 'Les Miserables'.

Jennifer Lawrence makes it into the Best Actress roll call along with Jessica Chastain ('Zero Dark Thirty'), Quvenzhané Wallis ('Beasts of the Southern Wild'), Naomi Watts ('The Impossible') and Emmanuelle Riva for 'Amour'.

After missing out on an Oscar in 2008, Anne Hathaway will need to fight off competition from Amy Adams ('The Master') and Sally Field ('Lincoln') to be sucessful this time round.

Also nominated is Bradley Cooper, for her role in 'Silver Linings Playbook with a nod in the best actor category. His fellow nominees are Joaquin Phoenix ('The Master'), Denzel Washington ('Flight'), Hugh Jackman (Les Miserables) and Daniel Day Lewis ('Lincoln').

British singer Adele has been nominated for an Oscar for her Bond theme 'Skyfall'. The last Bond song to be nominated for 'Best Song' was 'For Your Eyes Only' in 1982.

Among the snubs that have been creating a buzz include past Oscar winners Kathryn Bigelow ('Zero Dark Thirty') and Tom Hooper ('Les Miserables') for directing, and for 'The Sessions' John Hawkes, 'Arbitrage's' Richard Gere, and 'Django Unchained's' Leonardo DiCaprio -- all of whom received Golden Globes nominations for acting.

Winners for the 85th Oscars will be announced on Sunday 24 February at a ceremony from Hollywood's Dolby Theatre.
