Love and be loved.
This year’s Pink Dot event is set to blow your mind pink at Hong Lim Park on 30 June.
The annual event supporting the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) community in Singapore will be held at sundown for the first time in four years.
Last year, more than 10,000 people displayed their love in attendance of the pink event.
The gathering is a show of support for those who believe in openness and love between people, regardless of their sexual orientation. It’s a free entry event for anyone and everyone!
Pink Dot has even inspired similar events in other cities like New York and London.
Aside from all things pink, attendees can expect an exciting line-up of some of Singapore’s favourite celebrities.
For starters, well-known local drag queen and comedian, Kumar will be there. You know it’s an event not to be missed when Kumar’s around to lift your spirits with his witty banter and hilarious jokes.
Kumar is also one of Pink Dot 2012’s ambassadors along with ex-MediaCorp actress, Sharon Au who will also be putting on a show on the day.
Other acts include performances by Pam Oei, one-third of the famous cabaret trio, Dim Sum Dollies, and popular local acoustic duo Jack & Rai, who have charmed the nation with their catchy tunes and soulful lyrics.
The fun-packed evening will kick-off at 6pm, performances will begin at 6.30pm, followed by the formation of Pink Dot 2012, which will take place at sunset.
Supporters will gather to form a pink dot of shimmering torches, light sticks and glowing mobile phones, in the first few hours of darkness.
Commemorating the event at night “makes for a dramatic message of inclusivity and acceptance – a celebration of unity in diversity that emphasises our shared belief in the Freedom to Love,” said a spokesperson for Pink Dot 2012.
So showcase your big heart and get yourself a slice of pink at this year’s local love affair. With great music and awesome performances, there’s no reason for it to be missed.
