The British actress has joined the cast of the Italian director's forthcoming drama, which will also feature Michael Caine, Jane Fonda, Harvey Keitel and Paul Dano.
Before taking home the Oscar and the Golden Globe for best foreign film in 2014 with 'The Great Beauty' ('La Grande Bellezza'), Paolo Sorrentino has consistently shined at the Cannes Film Festival, where he won the Jury Prize in 2008 with 'Il Divo' and was part of the Official Selection in 2004, 2006, 2011 and 2013.
So it's no surprise that his second English-language feature has attracted a slew of renowned actors, including Rachel Weisz.
The British actress will share the screen with Michael Caine, Jane Fonda, Harvey Keitel and Paul Dano in the feature, which centers on two 80-something friends vacationing together in the Alps.
Fred, a retired composer, and Mick, a filmmaker, are both coming to terms with their lives and facing their future.
In the limited time left ahead of them, Fred considers returning to music, while Mick struggles to complete his final film.
The film is scheduled to enter production by the end of May.
