February 14th – A red-letter day.
It’s the first day of the new Year of the Tiger;
It’s Valentine’s Day;
And (drum-roll) it’s now officially the soft-opening date of Resorts World Sentosa’s casino and of the integrated resort’s Universal Studios Singapore movie theme park!
Judging by the sneak-preview pictures, the place certainly looks spectacular, offering more than 15 different table games, slots and electronic game machines in a luxurious and plush setting.
Singaporeans will need to buy a casino levy before entering the hall. Details can be found at the official website www.rwsentosa.com.
The official public opening of Universal Studios Singapore, meanwhile, is now slated for earlier March.
But ahead of that, Resorts World will offer a sneak-peek week at the amusement park, from 14 to 21 February, from 5pm to 9pm daily. Admission tickets for this sneak-peek go for $10, which includes a dining voucher of the same value.
Resorts World Sentosa CEO Mr Tan Hee Teck explained the timing of the theme park’s soft-launch:
“We are still fine-tuning the rides and shows in the theme park, which is still on schedule to open in the first quarter of 2010.
“However, since it is Chinese New Year, we decided to offer Singaporeans a week long preview of Universal Studios Singapore with a special and unique first-to-see walk-through opportunity.
“The theme park’s unique restaurants and shopping venues will be open for guests, although rides and shows will not be operational.”
The park’s top attraction is probably the world’s first Far Far Away Castle where visitors can step into the exciting world of Shrek, Princess Fiona and talking donkey.
From there, visitors can also get their adrenalin pumping at the Jurassic Park and Water World areas, feel the energy of America’s most exciting city at the New York area, rub shoulder with celebrities at the Hollywood area and even visit the dense tropical jungle of the hit movie Madagascar.
And if time travel is your thing, you can either take a journey back to Ancient Egypt or experience a futuristic world of space age cities and inter-galactic wars at Sci-Fi City.
Resorts World Sentosa is also planning to open the world’s largest Marine Life Park, a maritime museum, a destination spa, as well as two new hotels at a later phase.
