Ryan Guzman is to don the tan jacket and chino slacks combo of Jerrica's boyfriend Rio in 'Jem and the Holograms', having previously starred in director Jon Chu's dance movie 'Step Up Revolution'.
The American actor greeted film fans in a video recorded on the set of 'Jem and the Holograms' and published by the movie's Tumblr blog on JemTheMovie.com.
"I'm so excited. This is something that has been amazing in the 80s when I was growing up," he said.
"I can't wait to give you guys the updates and the juicy little details that everybody's been spilling, but you're going to have to wait -- they're coming soon."
As well as taking the lead role in Jon Chu's 'Step Up Revolution' and July 2014's 'Step Up All In', Guzman appeared alongside 'Hellboy II' antagonist (and ex-Bros band member) Luke Goss and Macanese actress Ming-Na Wen of 'Agents of SHIELD' in 2013 action film 'April Rain'.
Since June 2013, he has been a regular on season 4 of the TV series 'Pretty Little Liars', also playing the part of a main character's boyfriend, Aria's martial arts instructor Jake.
Ryan joins an established cast consisting of Aubrey Peeples as Jerrica/Jem, Stefanie Scott as Kimber, Hayley Kiyoko as Aja and Aurora Perrineau as Shana who, together, comprise Jem and the Holograms.
The movie is expected to make a 2016 theatrical debut.
