Sentosa PLAYcation promises a good time for families this December

It’s December already- where did 2013 go?

Why not celebrate Christmas, New Years and the school holidays at Sentosa? With everything from festive food and live music, to creating your own decorations,it’s the most Singaporean way to celebrate the holidays. Running until 1 January, here are some of the highlights from Sentosa PLAY-cation.

AROUND THE MERLION

The Merlion gets a colourful makeover with lights>

The iconic Merlion gets an update with 3D video images projected onto its façade.

Time: 7.30pm, 8.30pm and 9.30pm (Fri & Sat), 7.30pm, 8pm, 8.30pm , 9pm and 9.30pm (Sun - Thu)

You can also grab local food while being serenaded by retro pop tunes provided by The Blokes

Every Friday and Saturday from 23rd Nov - 14 Dec, and daily from 20- 28 Dec | Time: 2.30pm to 9.30pm

There’s also plenty for the kids. There’s Loony Balloons by Alfred Lee - a balloon sculptor, magician and puppeteer all in one.

23 Nov: 4.30pm and 5.30pm | 29 Dec: 4.30pm and 6.30pm

INSTAGRAM-WORTHY SPOTS

There are specially-customised Christmas trees by students from Temasek Polytechnic all along the Sentosa Boardwalk, as well as more tongue-in-cheek works by local street artist Samantha Lo (of  ‘’My Grandfather Road” spray-painting fame) at the Beach Plaza.

At Paper Play, you have a photo opportunity with life-sized art displays. You can even bring home mini cardboard versions of them.

A MUSICAL CHRISTMAS

Keeping with the festive vibes, there will also be a host of music performances over the next month with blues, jazz or even ukelele music at the Merlion Plaza. All of the acts featured are local, and feature both familiar and upcoming talents.

Blues Christmas featuring Smokey and Skunk Jive promises soulful blues performances. 

Date: 20 Dec | Time: 6.30pm, 7.30pm and 8.30pm

Or let teen idol Nathan Hartono serenade you with his smooth vocals and material from his three albums. 

Date: 24 Dec | Time: 6.30pm and 8.30pm

On Christmas day, sing along to familiar carols and feet-tapping pop, rock and evergreen tunes with Polka Dot + Moonbeam and Ukes Avenue. At the end of their performances, you can try your hand at playing the ukulele. Who knows? You may unearth some hidden musical talent.
