For the chin-stroking art fans
In the spirit of remembering and reminiscing, the people at Singapore Arts Fest are presenting The People’s Exhibition(regional public libraries )—a show about Singapore icons long forgotten. How many of you remember the Van Kleef Aquarium and The Kallang Theatre? This exhibition reminds us of these performance venues and spaces. The memories are kept alive by members of the public’s photographs, collectibles and items like concert programmes and tickets.
Don’t miss Insitu Fort Canning Hill - Artists' Maps Exhibition(Festival Village, through Jun 5).This multi-disciplinary project in collaboration with the National Heritage Board features a series of aesthetic travelogues of artists mapping poetic sites. The project starts off by bringing multi-disciplinary artists to a place, and then they leave remembering it through mapping. The artists’ maps culminate in a live performance, exhibition and book. The maps take the form of stories, visuals, objects and songs. They reference a place, but even more so, reveal the artists. Places never become objective but are always personal constructs.
Burmese multimedia artist Aung Ko’s exhibition, Aung Ko’s Village(Jendela & Concourse, Esplanade ;through Jul 2) revolves around the communitarian aspect of village/indigenous life. Aung Ko uses the village and its rituals as starting points for a thoughtful examination of contemporary existence in our region.
