Sway to the Beat for free!

The annual Baybeats is back and the best part is – it’s still free! Here’s the rundown and the must-watch daily performances during the three-day music festival.

In its ninth edition, Baybeats 2010 will feature over 50 performances by 36 bands from 10 countries. For music fiends who love finding out what new bands have to offer, look out for the eight local groups that are making their debut after making it through the Baybeats Audition.

There’s an exciting line-up of alternative genres from folk (e.g. Carlos Castano), to electronica duos (e.g. Elektone, Cosmic Armchair), electro-punk (e.g. Handsome Furs), metal (e.g. Rudra) and indie-pop (e.g. The Camerawalls).

Carlos Castano (PH) – Head to the Chillout Stage for folk singer-songwriter Castano who has just completed his first solo album City Light Soundtrack. He cites Mayer and Ray LaMontagne as his musical influences.

All about the Audition Bands

For the fourth year, Baybeats Audition is back again. This special segment profiles local bands that have never performed at the music festival. These bands went through two rounds of auditions before getting picked to present at Baybeats:

Meltg Snow

Postbox

Run Neon Tiger channels indie songwriting vibes from The Killers and melodies of The Strokes.

Meltg Snow has a characteristic aggressive sound replete with intense vocals. Their Black Penance album is slated to be released by an international label followed by a tour later this year.

Duxton Plains’ music is a fusion of frenzied rifts, insightful lyrics juxtaposed with metal, emo and hardcore melodies.

The Zozi is inspired by musical luminaries such as Morrissey to Ramlee Sarip and its signature sound consists of a surf punk attitude with neu-bohemia rock.

Cockpit is barely two years old but its storyteller-esque lyrics and theatrical rock tunes have already won them a new legion of fans.

Basement in My Loft draws influences from a gamut of musicians like Fugazi to Neil Young, Johnny Cash to The Jam.

Postbox’s toe-tapping worthy pop-rock musicis reminiscent of a light breeze during a picturesque summer holiday.

Trella has been promoting their post hardcore sounds since 2007 and has a latest release The Silver Lining.
