The most exciting swimming event of the year happens Friday 5 September at Singapore Swim Stars. Some of the world’s best swimmers will meet for a showdown at the Sports Hub’s OCBC Aquatic Centre.

Among the 60 swimmers from 18 countries will be the reigning 100m freestyle world champion James Magnussen, as well as Olympic Gold medalists Jessica Hardy and Kosuke Kitajima.

Head back to the Sports Hub on Saturday 6 September for the fourth edition of Tiger Street Football. Former Chelsea and Barcelona player Deco is in Singapore, along with some of his former Portuguese team-mates (Vitor Baia, Nuno Gomes, Paolo Ferreira and Maniche) for an exhibition match at the cage at the river walk in front of the National Stadium.

Matches with regional teams from Cambodia and Myanmar begin from 3.05pm, but the all-star match is at 6.05pm. Be sure to stay on for the prize presentation and a meet-and-greet session with the famous footballers. 

Kids & family

Comic and pop-culture fans will be in for a treat this weekend (6 and 7 September) at the Singapore Toy, Game and Comic Convention (STGCC) 2014. Catch Mexican comic-book artist Humberto Ramos and the man behind Tokidoki, Simone Legno, as well as a host of cosplayers and collectors. Make sure you get your tickets here.

Also catch Singapore’s very own Wayne Ree, the man behind ‘Tales from a Tiny Room’, at the Books Actually booth, which will feature works from its comic and genre-centric collective, The Comic Strip. 

Also catch over 200 local and international acts - from jugglers to clowns, beat boxers to sword swallwers- at the Sentosa Buskers Festival which starts this Saturday, 6 September. Head over to Palawan Beach and walk around the Beach Plaza, where acts will be on from 4.30 to 9.30pm.  

Parties & nightlife

House music pioneer French DJ Francois K at Club Kyo is on deck, and Australian duo Feenixpawl, made up of Aden Forte and Josh Soon, take on Zouk on Friday 5 September. On Saturday, Italian duo Vinai will spin at the club.

Axwell’s remix of the track ‘In My Mind’ sealed the duo’s place in the EDM ranks
