While we’re all for showing our mothers appreciation any day of the year, the Mother’s day weekend is a prime time to take her out for some TLC. Here are our picks of things to do that will have mums of any generation feeling like a million bucks.
If your mum is all about tradition, treat her to soothing symphonies at the Singapore Chinese Orchestra’s Mother’s Day Concert. Conducted by Quek Ling Kiong, the ensemble will be playing familiar theme songs from Chinese Dramas, a medley of Cantonese music and Teochew gong and drum music.
No time to scout for a Mother’s Day gift during the week? Spoil your mum by bringing her to the Summer Fancy Faire where she can pick out a gift (or two!) of her own liking. Over 100 vendors from around the world will be plying exquisite jewellery, clothing, cosmetics, bags, shoes, perfumes, paintings, silverware and more. Sure, most of the spoils here will be on the expensive side, but it’ll be worth it for the gleam in her eyes.
Any mother will know that keeping the kids in check isn’t the easiest of jobs. If you’re energy needs rebooting, bring the whole family to the Mind, Body and Spirit Festival. The two-day holistic event features a wide selection of fun and relaxing workshops, from yoga to zumba and meditation. Little ones will love the kids yoga workshop, which teaches the basic poses with storytelling, games and art.
For a cheery Mother's Day, head to Gardens by the Bay as Tulipmania invades for the next few weeks. The indoor field will be filled with frolicsome red, yellow, white, purple and pink tulips that have been specially flown in from the Netherlands. There will also be activity sheets to keep the kids busy while adults enjoy Dutch music and cheese tastings.
Have a day of bonding with your kids with a field trip to Singaporean Peranakan Museum for their Mother’s Day special, Nyonya Dearest. The guided tour of the museum will touch on the strength of Peranakan women. Later, your child will learn to craft a Mother’s day card and a bouquet of colourful paper peonies that are sure to make you warm and fuzzy. For a cute souvenir in memory of your day out, take a photo dressed up in traditional Peranakan costumes.
Can you crunch numbers faster than the speed of light or dominate the field in sports? Enter the Supermom Rises To The Challenge! race with your child (aged between 6-12 years) and try to beat the other mother-and-child duos with your smarts and speed. The team with the most points will be rewarded with spa vouchers, coffee machines and more.
