The Dark Elves and Thor enter ‘The Dark World’

Marvel just unleashed five new images from the set of ‘Thor: The Dark World’.

Unlike his Avengers compatriot Iron Man, Thor’s storyline in the comics and movies is more rooted in the fantastical realms of Asgard and its neighbours.

In ‘Thor: The Dark World’, we will see the Prince of Asgard (Chris Hemsworth) return this October to face off new villain Malekith The Accursed who, according to the comic books, is the ruler of the Dark Elves of Svartalfheim. We’re not really sure how faithful to the source material this movie will be (you know how Marvel can be; ‘Iron Man 3’ can attest to that) but English actor Christopher Eccleston (‘Dr Who, ’28 Days Later’) plays the new antagonist and he looks pretty awesome.

Of course, we cannot forget Malekith’s minions, the Dark Elves themselves. These guys look creepier than the elves we’re used to seeing, and they look like they have blaster guns rather than bows and arrows.

And here we have the God of Thunder himself in battle with Lady Sif (Jaimie Alexander, ‘The Last Stand’) posing with her sword in the background. This scene might be from the movie’s final act where the invading Elves descend upon Asgard for a final battle which by judging from the trailer is reminiscent of "The Battle of the Pelennor Fields" in ‘Return of The King’.

‘Thor: The Dark World’ opens in theatres 31 October
