Alternative rock band The Fray will be ushering in the festivities at this year’s Guinness Arthur’s Day on 27 September.
Inaugurated in 2009 to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the eponymous world-famous stout, the Arthur's Day Concert is held in 55 countries – including Singapore.
The event, to be held at an undisclosed location, will only have 1,759 tickets up for grabs. Tickets are not for sale and they can only be won by posting pictures of you and your friends (with a Guinness in hand, of course) on the Guinness Singapore Facebook page or participating in three 'Acts of Boldness' — special challenges at three locations which will be revealed on the Facebook page.
“ONCE IN A LIFETIME” EVENT
“Guinness Arthur’s Day is a worldwide music event that takes place in various cities, and celebrates the anniversary of Arthur Guinness’ signing of the 9,000-year lease of the St James’ brewery in Dublin. And this year in Singapore, we are offering a once-in-a-lifetime experience for our fans,” explained Rene de Monchy, Asia Pacific Breweries Singapore’s head of marketing.

“Last year, we brought four acts that would have never performed together on stage. To up the ante this year, we thought that we would give the event an element of surprise that money can’t buy, and that’s why we brought in an international act like The Fray and are holding the event in a secret location,” de Monchy told inSing.com.
Festivities in 2012 featured a five-hour Mando-pop and rock fest with live music by Taiwanese vocalist Shin, Malaysia's Golden Melody Award-winner Gary Chaw with his band The Sensation, Paul Wong from the Hong Kong rock band Beyond and Chinese singer Della Ding Dang.
'How To Save A Life' — The Fray
The Fray, whose songs were featured in popular shows like ‘Grey's Anatomy’, ‘The Vampire Diaries’, ‘One Tree Hill’ and many others, are known for their hits such as ‘How to Save a Life’, ‘Be Still’ and ‘You Found Me’.
Made up of guitarist Joe King, lead singer and pianist Isaac Slade, drummer Ben Wysocki and guitarist Dave Welsh, The Fray most recently released the album, ‘Scars and Stories’, which tackles its evolution since their massive breakthrough six years ago. The album debuted at #4 on the 'Billboard Hot 200' and has produced two hit singles so far, ‘Heartbeat’ and ‘Run for your Life’.

And what’s a Singapore celebration without local music? An added surprise this year is the 'Play on the Day' music competition for Singapore bands to compete for a spot to open for The Fray. Bands can enter the contest by submitting a video of themselves performing via YouTube in a private message to the Guinness Facebook page by 17 September. Shortlisted bands then will compete at four locations — Switch (20 Aug), Timbre @ Gilman (27 Aug), Timbre @ The Substation (3 Sep) and Timbre @ The Arts House (10 Sep). The winner will be selected by The Fray.
“We want to continue our support of local music through this event and while we are giving our fans this money-can’t-buy experience, we want to offer Singapore musicians the same opportunity as well,” de Monchy said.
